Assessment and Banking of Ecosystem Services

3 Days - $750

Land trusts, corporations, and public agencies are increasingly interested in trading credits to help compensate for unavoidable loss of beneficial ecosystem services.  However, a key stumbling point is how to to estimate and monitor the ecosystem services that are the currency of the trading or banking system.  This course covers a range of naturally-performed ecosystem services including carbon sequestration, water purification, and fishery production, describing the current scientific basis for estimating each.  As a prelude for trading their credits, you will learn to use specific indicators and practical approaches for estimating these services within and among forests, grasslands, conservation tillage lands, wetlands, and other systems.  Scientific aspects will be emphasized; economic valuation and accounting aspects will not be covered in detail.

This course will be taught by Adamus.

Corvallis, Oregon November 13-15, 2008

An Agenda provided here for the Assessment and Banking of Ecosystem Services course is from a previous course.  While drastic changes are not anticipated, due to the changing nature of what the instructors feel is critical to teach, please be aware that the topics covered in the agenda may not be exactly what will be covered in a future course.
