We
will visit several wetlands and assess their hydrologic, water quality, and
biological functions using standardized methods such as Oregon's new ORWAP
protocol, California's CRAM, and Washington State's HGM and Rating Systems.
Learn how to recognize and avoid common mistakes and unscientific
assumptions when submitting or reviewing permit applications, mitigation
proposals, and monitoring plans. While learning the mechanics of the
methods, you will also gain a deeper understanding of the processes that
determine wetland functions and ecosystem services at multiple scales. That
will help you design better mitigation projects and monitoring. We will also
cover wetland classifications used in British Columbia and other parts of
the Pacific Northwest. This course is important for resource agencies, land
trusts, consultants, and others needing to understand and apply best
available science to assess functions or health of natural, constructed, or
restored wetlands. Lecture notes are provided. Instructor: Adamus. |

An Agenda provided here for the Assessing Wetlands Functions and Health course is from a previous course. While drastic changes are not anticipated, due to the changing nature of what the instructors feel is critical to teach, please be aware that the topics covered in the agenda may not be exactly what will be covered in a future course.
