Pocket Guide to Hydric Soil Field Indicators
Version 6.0 of the NRCS Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in the United States; A Guide for Identifying and Delineating Hydric Soils in a handy, hip-pocket size. If you want to use the latest field indicators, you won't find a more convenient format for carrying it into the field. The Pocket Guide contains all of the information, field indicators, color photographs and figures of the original NRCS publication in a 6 3/4 x 4 ? inch size with blue, plastic laminated cover. Separate pages are devoted to each field indicator for ease of use. No more having to flip back and forth to the Land Resource Region map (also included) - each indicator has a locator map of geographical applicability right with the written description. We have provided maps for those indicators that are only applicable in Major Land Resource Areas that were not indicated on the original. Also included for reference, are the USDA textural triangle, a schematic for determining soil texture by feel (the "calibrated finger process"), a standard chart for estimating the proportions of redox concentrations and depletions (mottles) in a soil profile and examples of coated sand grain percentages.
