San Jacinto
Battleground Master Plan -
Selected as the prairie and wetland specialist for the team of
consultants selected through national competition to design and prepare
a master plan for the redevelopment of the San Jacinto Battleground. My
participation included design of the plan for the restoration of the
native prairie to 1836 species composition.
International
Soil Conference on Aquic Conditions
-The guest wetland consultant invited to travel with international soil
specialists and USDA representatives at the national level to
participate in the Soil Conservation Service’s ISCOM VIII meeting of
the Agency for International Development to discuss various issues and
answer questions relative to the use of soil surveys in wetland
delineation and mapping.
Camptotheca
acuminata Decaisne
(Nyssaceae) – Selected as
the wetland ecologist to travel many weeks in the search throughout
various areas of extreme southern and central China to collect seeds for
research from the remaining pure stands of the Camptotheca tree
recognized for anti-cancer and anti-viral properties. The results of
these efforts include the discovery of an additional Camptotheca
species; placement of the tree species on the Endangered List;
development of a new species, Camptotheca lowreyana from which
the variety “Katie” was developed (possessing multiple times the
curative agent); my invitation to present these findings to various
ethnobotanical researchers including those at Harvard University;
development of a private stand of the species at my farm; introduction
of the species into various locations to research the tree’s adaptive
capabilities (edaphic, hydrologic, etc.).
