The
course will focus on tools and procedures for estimating ecosystem services
at multiple scales, ranging from individual parcels to watersheds and
regions. For selected habitat types, we will demonstrate and explain the
latest methods for quantifying services such as carbon sequestration, water
purification, water temperature maintenance, fish production, and/or
biodiversity. Learn how to apply the assessment methods to your land to
quantify "functional lift" in both the functions and their values. This will
be useful for quantifying credits you might receive from restoration
projects as well as for quantifying impacts to services from proposed
activities. This course is important for private landowners, mitigation
bankers, consultants, resource agencies, land trusts, land use planners,
land managers, and others who may wish to participate in current or
rapidly-developing future markets for ecosystem services.
