Planning Hydrology for Constructed Wetlands

4 Days - $890

This course provides the basics for planning sources and quantities of water to support wetland construction and restoration. Focus is on hydrology as the unifying concept in wetland function. Topics include determining hydrologic input; planning mitigation to utilize water sources appropriate to the hydrogeomorphic locale; applying water budgets; and discussing ways to alter plans and evaluate the appropriateness of the hydrograph to the design. In a class exercise, participants will plan the hydrologic inputs for a site and compare their plans with the results of a completed project. Participants will receive a manuscript of Wetlands for Mitigation: Hydrology, Vegetation, and Soils, by Gary Pierce and Malory Gilbert. It is strongly recommended that each student bring a laptop computer capable of working with excel spreadsheets.

Instructor: G. Pierce.
