course covers critical elements for
construction and restoration of wetlands. These principles are requisite for
constructing wetlands for individual mitigation projects and for mitigation
banks regardless of the size of the project. The elements required to
prepare a plan for constructing or restoring wetlands are covered including
establishing goals, site selection, defining and quantifying hydrology,
preparing vegetation plans, and establishing a proper soil substrate. A
field trip, emphasizing hydrology and site selection, will focus on features
that caused success and failure and how to avoid the failure. On completion,
participants should be able to prepare all of the critical elements for
wetland construction and restoration plans. The manuscript, Wetlands for
Mitigation: Hydrology, Vegetation, and Soils, by Gary Pierce and Malory
Gilbert, is provided. Instructor:
G. Pierce. |

An
Agenda provided here for the Planning Hydrology, Vegetation, and Soils for
Constructed Wetlands course is from a previous course. While drastic changes are
not anticipated, due to the changing nature of what the instructors feel is
critical to teach, please be aware that the topics covered in the agenda may
not be exactly what will be covered in a future course.
