Regional Supplement Update for Wetland Delineators in Montana 3 Days - $550 |
The Corps of Engineers (Corps) is in the process of releasing a series of Regional Supplements to the 1987 Corps Wetland Delineation Manual. After peer review and a public comment period, the Regional Supplements are being implemented for one-year interim trial periods. The state of Montana is covered by three Regional Supplements that currently are released in "interim" status. As such, these three supplements the Western Mountain, Valley, and Coast, the Great Plains, and the Arid West are required for conducting wetland delineations for Clean Water Act purposes in the affected regions. The basic outline and requirements of all of these Regional Supplements have been consistent while specific indicators and problematic situations vary by region. Within this outline, there are substantive changes regarding field indicators and process from current practice with the 1987 Manual. This course is designed for wetland delineators working in Montana who are already trained in use of the 1987 Manual who want to get specifics on how to use the new Regional Supplements and how their fieldwork will be affected. This course will include background, differentiation between the "regions" in Montana (e.g. especially near boundaries, how to decide which Regional Supplement should be used), explanation and comparison of changes, understanding of problematic situations, navigation of the new field indicators of hydric soils, and opportunity for discussion. The course will be a combination of both classroom lectures and field exercises. Field exercises will include a combination of demonstration and mentored practice to expose students to application of the various field indicators, description of redoximorphic features in the soil, use of field indicators of hydric soils, and recognition and documentation of wetland hydrology all using the new regional supplement data forms. Participants will receive Lecture Notes, a WTI Pocket Guide to Hydric Soil Field Indicators, and a CD with the available Regional Supplements to date and version 6.0 of the NRCS Field Indicators of Hydric Soils. Instructor pool: This course is taught by Newling and R. Pierce. |
