This live, Zoom-based course is designed for wetland delineators and others who need to accurately identify sedges (Cyperaceae), grasses (Poaceae), and rushes (Juncaceae) in the field. The course features 35-45 fresh and dried specimens collected from wetlands and nearby areas, which are shipped to participants ahead of time for hands-on study during and after class. Students receive a detailed class notebook covering reproductive and vegetative terminology, a color image booklet of class specimens, and dissection tools including a millimeter ruler, needles, and a razor knife. The course is applicable nationwide, including in Alaska, and provides valuable training in the identification of challenging monocot groups critical to wetland delineation work.
