This course aims to help participants identify important wetland plant species in California and master the fundamentals of plant keying, a skill useful nationwide. Classroom sessions focus on plant families, genera, species, and the use of web-based resources and floral keys, with emphasis on plant anatomy and terminology. Field sessions provide hands-on learning in diverse wetland habitats, such as vernal pools, marshes, riparian zones, and region-specific environments like salt marshes and chaparral. Each location (Folsom, Santa Rosa, San Diego) offers tailored plant guides and materials, enhancing relevance for wetland delineations, the California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM), and other field studies.
